SMART Coin System (SCS) from Innovative Technology Ltd is a complete coin validator, hopper & recycler in one device. It validates, discriminates and stores mixed euro coins, then pays them out as change when required. Coins can be loaded in bulk through the top Pay In Chute, removing the need for manual sorting before refilling.
SCS builds on the proven SMART Hopper 4 platform. The hopper handles mixed coin storage and payout, while the Coin Feeder adds bulk coin validation from the top. This keeps the euro coin float under control, speeds up refills and helps prevent coin starvation in self-service machines.

SCS combines bulk coin validation, mixed coin storage and coin payout in a single integrated module. It is designed for operators who need reliable euro coin acceptance and change payout from one compact system.
Bulk coin validation
The Coin Feeder mechanically singulates coins and validates them using diameter sensors, inner and outer material sensors and an acoustic sensor. The readings are checked against the valid dataset to decide whether the coin is recognised.
Mixed denomination payout
Accepted coins are stored in one mixed coin hopper. When the host requests a payout value, SCS selects the required coin combination automatically and pays out up to 12 coins per second.
Coin level control
Float Amount, Float by Denomination and Set Cashbox Payout Limit commands help the host manage the coin float. This keeps the correct mix of coins available and helps avoid unnecessary out-of-service time.
Integration with ITL cash handling devices
SCS can be integrated with other Innovative Technology cash handling products, including banknote validators and payout modules, to create a complete cash solution for self-service checkouts, kiosks and payment terminals.
Optional Chute with Debris Collection
For demanding environments, we recommend the PA04138 Chute with Debris Collection. It helps protect the Coin Feeder from sand, dirt and small debris, and is strongly recommended for new SCS and Twin SCS integrations.

SCS communicates with the host via SSP or eSSP, with CC2 available depending on the integration. The USB Type B port is used for programming and bench testing. The device requires a stable 24 V DC power supply. For SMART Coin System, the recommended supply is 24 V DC / 6.5 A.
Upgrading an existing machine? With the suitable Baseplate, SMART Coin System can be used as a fitting replacement for SMART Hopper 3. This helps reduce redesign work and shortens the migration process.

How is SMART Coin System different from SMART Hopper 4?
SMART Hopper 4 is a mixed coin hopper and payout unit. SMART Coin System adds the Coin Feeder, turning the platform into a complete coin validator, hopper & recycler in one device. Choose SCS if the machine needs to accept, validate, store and pay out euro coins using one integrated module.
Does the device support euro coins?
Yes. SMART Coin System accepts coins from 18 to 28.5 mm in diameter and from 1.65 to 3.2 mm in thickness. This range covers standard euro coins, depending on the selected currency dataset and hardware type. Euro configuration is available on request.
What happens if someone inserts a foreign, damaged or unrecognised coin?
The Coin Feeder rejects coins that are not included in the valid dataset. The validation process uses diameter sensors, inner and outer material sensors and an acoustic sensor. Coins are categorised as recognised or unrecognised.
What is the reliability of the device?
MCBF, or Mean Cycles Between Failure, is 100,000 cycles. One cycle means one coin accepted or paid out. Wear parts can be replaced without changing the complete unit.
How long does it take to refill SCS?
A full refill takes around 5 minutes. In traditional systems with several separate hoppers, the same process could take around 25 minutes. With SCS, coins are inserted in bulk through the Pay In Chute and validated automatically.
Which communication protocols does SCS support?
SMART Coin System supports SSP and eSSP, with CC2 available depending on the integration. eSSP is recommended for new projects because it provides encrypted communication.
Can SCS replace an older SMART Hopper 3?
Yes. With the suitable Baseplate, SCS can be used as a fitting replacement for SMART Hopper 3 and can keep existing machine harnessing unchanged. This makes upgrades easier for machine manufacturers and operators.

Some products (such as Smart Hopper, NV9S, NV200) also have warranty limits based on the total number of operating cycles. In these cases, the warranty is valid until the first limit is reached:
either 12 months or the specified number of cycles.
The warranty does not cover damage resulting from improper use, the use of non-original parts or consumables, or devices that have exceeded their declared cycle lifespan.
Before sending a device for warranty service, it is recommended to check the cycle count and contact the seller or an authorized ITL service center to confirm eligibility for repair.
